AKC Canine Good Citizen Testing

The AKC Canine Good Citizen is a good way to establish a strong foundation for training in other activities such as obedience and agility. A well-mannered dog is enjoyable to live with and to be around for family and friends. Recently, many apartments and condos have begun requiring that residents with dogs must have passed the CGC test.

The Canine Good Citizen (or “CGC”) test takes about an hour and consists of the following ten activities that are designed to determine if your dog has the skills needed to be a well-mannered dog.

Your dog will be evaluated on:

  • Accepting a friendly stranger
  • Sitting politely for petting
  • Appearance and grooming
  • Walking on a loose leash
  • Walking through a crowd
  • Sit, down, and stay
  • Coming when called
  • Reaction to other dogs
  • Reaction to distractions
  • Supervised Separation

If your dog is well mannered and performs all of these tests call us today to be evaluated by one of our AKC certified evaluators! If your dog needs a little work on his/her behaviors join a basic obedience class to prepare for the CGC exam! You can check out our sister company, Doggie Do Good, Inc., for more information on training your dog to pass the CGC through Doggie Camp, private lessons, or basic obedience classes.
